About Us

Our
Mission & Values

Built Deep is about strengthening the hands of Christ's servants.

We believe that Jesus calls people to serve in his kingdom and his Church. We also believe that God's servants warrant the very highest degree of equipping, care, and attention.

Because we are convinced that Christian service flows most powerfully out of well-rounded lives that are fully connected to God and alive in the Holy Spirit, Built Deep prioritizes the spiritual and social development of Christian leaders while providing Christian ministry training at levels equivalent to undergraduate and graduate education in the divinities.

Our Roots

Built Deep's training agenda is the fruit of decades. It was first framed as intensive mission and small-groups training for emerging leaders at Calvary Chapel, (Costa Mesa, CA) in the early and mid-1980's. The second version (at Disciples' Church, Costa Mesa) lengthened and expanded to include more robust ministry and leadership education. It was during this season that D-Groups became a broader kingdom work by providing training for leaders at regional congregations and ministries of varied tradition, focus and size.

In the late 1990's and early 2000's, the Stoa Foundation took some of the D-Group principles and teachings to the airwaves (Interface Radio) and to cross-cultural community work (Stoa Kauai, Anahola), while Pastor Wes Davis (Riverton, KS) formed Stoa Ministries International, assisting global pastors and ministries on four continents. The next decade saw the same materials integrated into formal classroom instruction for courses in mission, anthropology and global studies (Vanguard University, Azusa Pacific University, Fuller Seminary). In the most recent season, D-Groups have been support bases for church, mission, education, charity and youth workers on the island of Kauai (2018-2020).
